Weekend Updates:

Frank and I had a great time hanging out with Anthony and Laura–even though the conversation did wind up running aground in politics and religion. ::Sigh::

Saturday I went to IAA to get some work done on the Newsletter (Will this thing ever go away!?) and then I met up with Dorothy for a little lunch and then a little shoppy shoppy. 🙂 After that, I went home and took care of thank you notes and a few other things around the house before we saw my brother’s band play in the battle of the bands.

Can I tell you that my brother is just too cool? He has GROUPIES! These girls made their own band tee-shirts (Les Harvard is the name of the band) and screamed and jumped throughout the entire performance. I think it also helped that his band is actually very good–Frank and I loved watching them play. It’s exciting to see my brother “rocking out” on stage. I must tell you that the lead singer of his band is every bit of them “rock star” that my dad told me he was. He definitely has stage presence!

After the battle of the bands, Frank and I went to see XMen2–which I thought was great!! I wish I had Rebecca Romajn-Stamos’ body (Spelling?). Yikes!

Yesterday we went to my aunt’s house for Mother’s Day where we ate lots of yummy food. Then we went back to my house where Frank and I passed out for an hour and a half. We finished off the evening watching the movie “Singles”.

Upcoming Wedding Stuff:

This week we are interviewing the photographer, the florist and finding invitations. Crazy!!

Bye for now!

Birth Control…

Now I’m wondering if it’s my birth control that is ruining my appetite. Last month when I first started it, I was having hunger issues. And it does say on the package that it might cause nausea (sp?). At least I’m doing this now than later when Frank and I are married.

Hm. I got nothin’. Tonight I’m going to go out with Frank, Anthony and Miss Laura P. I think we are playing pool and the doing something else. I wonder if Frank remembers that I suck at pool…

Tomorrow I am going to IAA to work on their newsletter (so help me, I have to get this out the door) and then to lunch with Dor. Tomorrow night we are going to see my brother play in battle of the bands.

Why My Dad is Glad He’s Not Going

My dad is glad that Frank and I are going in his place because, quite frankly, he’s not sure Andy’s band will make it through one set, much less one song. Apparently the personality conflicts in this hot up and coming boy band are enough to bring the whole gig down. The lead singer already thinks he’s a rockstar. Never mind that they practice in my uncle’s garage, far from most of humanity. This guy thinks he’s got it goin’ on. My dad says that’s what all rockers think–that’s why they can get up every time they sing and rock out. In their minds, they are Mr. or Ms. Thang.

Aside from their risen star, my brother also contends with Mr. Ego who also dukes it out with Mr. Rockstar. My cousin and my brother just watch them argue, neither helping nor hurting the situation.

Anyway, wish him luck! This could be interesting 🙂

My dad says that he’d be too nervous to stand in the audience, holding his breath, praying that by some

Knots in my tummy…

Work gives me knots in my tummy. Every time I turn around, I’m worried that I or we are somehow in trouble with someone. I feel like I can’t ever do my job right and that I always have to justify myself and the things I do. It’s just not happiness. You have to wonder–is this really for me??

Balance

I have decided that for every time I whine, I must find something happy to report. Well, I am happy to report that I didn’t eat lunch today because the knots in my tummy made me not hungry. Sigh. That was a terrible attempt.

How about this: Frank makes me happy when he calls me at work. And it’s Thursday, so I get to see him! YAY!!

But I’m still at work. Gotta bust a move so I can get out of here by 7!

Have a good night!

Weekend Update

Well, I saw most of X-Men on Friday night with Frank, Craig and Jamie–outstanding movie (from what I saw). Then Saturday I went to Andrea M’s bachelorette party, which was a riot. We played “Pin the Hairy Chest on Dave” which made for some good gigglin’. I think I liked that she had a fairly tame bachelorette party–very few uncomfortable moments (if any at all).

Food Marketing Institute Show

Often referred to as Dr. K’s Christmas, this month is the double whammy of the Food Marketing Institute show and the National Restaurant Association Show. Designed for grocery and restaurant buyers, the show features a variety of foods to sample. From beer and chili to chocolates and creme puffs, the entire show is really a day-long buffet. What a brilliant idea! And I have to say, it was far better than the “Taste of Chicago”–fewer people and it was indoors! Fabulous!

Registering

Tonight my mom and I are going to register for China and bed linens, etc. I think it will be fun… I am thinking about registering at Target and Marshall Fields and possibly Pottery Barn or something like that. I’m not sure yet.

I think that’s it for now…

TGI Frickin' F!!!

Well, this week is finally over. Tonight Frank and I are having dinner with Craig and Jamie. YAY! Tomorrow I’m finishing up the IAA newsletter, getting some things for Andrea’s bachelorette party and attending that. Sunday I’m going with Frank’s parents to visit the National Restaurant Association thing. YAY!

Wedding Update:

Frank asked his best man, Anthony M, to stand up in the wedding and he said YES! YAY! Not that I thought he would say no, but it’s just nice when it all comes together like that. Frank just has one more person left to ask before we can officially check this portion off of our checklist.

Diet Coke Update:

I had a good spell of no DC. Then today, I can’t stop. I have had like 8 pieces of bubble gum, 5 DCs (my trash can is almost FULL with the DC containers) and I had a brownie at lunch. Great. I guess I should call the bridal boutique and have them change my order pronto!

BLAH!

Speaking of dresses, it’s slightly depressing that bridal gowns are one size smaller than regular sizes. Just thought I’d share.

Signing off for now… ~Em Dawg

ROOOOOoooarrrr!

I saw the Lion King musical last night–it was actually excellent! I wasn’t sure if the production would come across as super cheesy, but it didn’t! The costumes are amazing and the music is awesome. I really enjoyed it!!!!

The part I didn’t like so much was the drive home in the torrential downpour at 11 p.m. That was NOT cool. Normally I love storms, but last night I was not in the mood… I was tired and all I wanted was my bed.

Which is probably why I was soooo exhausted this morning that I overslept and didn’t get to work until 10 (when I usually get here at 8:15…) Sigh… So that is why I’m STILL at work. Just trying to make up for my crazy morning.

I realize that I don’t really close out my posts. I sort of stop and post it. Also, there isn’t much of a format for things. I used to be funnier, but lately I’ve just been too busy to write anything good…

G’bye!

THE DATE!!!

Mark your calendars–Frank and I are gettin’ hitched on Friday, September 19, 2003! Both of us are quite excited and know that there is a lot that needs to be done between now and this fall. So we have the church, the reception hall and my dress. We have appointments with a florist and a photographer. When Caitlin comes home, we will look for bridesmaids’ dresses.

The Line Up:

And now, your official R-K Wedding Line Up (on the bride’s side):

Maid of Honor – Caitlin R (sister of the bride)

Bridesmaids – Karen K (sister of the groom), Kathryn V (sister of the groom)

Jr. Bridesmaid of Honor – Sarah R (sister of the bride)

Frank still needs to ask his best man and the other groomsman, but he has already asked Andy R (my brother).

Weekend Updates!

Saturday I found THE dress. As in MY wedding gown!! I am sooo thrilled! We went to Volle’s Bridal in Lake Zurich and I tried on a couple dozen dresses. I put THE dress on and immediately felt like a princess! I’m so excited!

It’s weird how the reality of marriage comes on in spurts. When I picked out the dress, it became even more real for me. And then this weekend someone gave Frank and I coasters for our apartment with the letter K on them. In a few short months, I will have a new last name–how crazy is that!?

We also had our engagement party. I met a lot of Frank’s family and his parent’s friends. More than a few little old ladies called him “Franky”–and each time it was followed by, “Only Mrs. So-and-so can call him Franky.” Very cute!

Other than that, I had a pretty relaxing weekend. I had coffee (well, I don’t drink coffee so I had hot cocoa) with a girl from my small group on Saturday.

BUSTED!

Someone got totally busted on the train today. After my stop, the conductor got on the loud speaker and said, “To the lady that sauntered slowly infront of the train when the lights were flashing and the gates were down, that was a foolish thing to do. Never do that again. Thank you.” For some reason this makes me feel like I am 10 years old on the bus to school.

Other than that…

Today has been pretty okay at work today. Not too much is going on. Last night I hung out with Kim and then I came home and Frank and I discussed wedding stuff with my mom. Then we watched TV. Then we watched more TV. Then Frank mercilessly tickled me until I said, in the best stern voice I have, “My patience is wearing thin.” So then he hid at the bottom of the bed with only his eyes peaking up over the edge. He looked so cute and innocent I couldn’t help but giggle and forgive him.

Tonight I am going to play with Katy S. Katy is a babelicious babe and we are going to Olive Garden where I am going to eat some salad and soup. YUM! Katy and I are going to take over the world with our orange hand and zee pink lemonade!

🙂

Date

Okay, so now the date is back up in the air again. The place we went to last night had a cancellation that “uncanceled”, meaning we have to pick another date. The second date we picked, the church was booked. So now we have to figure out a way to do this… crazy! 🙂 All we want to do is get married! Is that so hard to do?? I’m sure we will find something that matches the church (which we love) with a reception hall that we also love. I just hope we find it sooner rather than later!

Questions…

In response to our fast-paced wedding plans, someone asked me, “Don’t you want to have an elegant wedding? Don’t you want it done right?” And I was thinking more about that today. I think that everyone has their own pace and idea of what “done right” is. Frank and I take marriage very seriously, which is why we decided to meet with a pastor before we even got engaged so that we could make sure we were on a good track. We still meet with him to bounce ideas around and think things through and have found it to be very effective. What became clear early on is that we love eachother and that won’t change. Waiting one year or two years isn’t going to alter these feelings. We are eager to get started on this life together and so we feel that there is no need to wait any longer than necessary.

I know we have many details left to get through, but I certainly hope we don’t get tangled up in them. Who remembers the ice sculpture or the Hors D’Oeuvres? I know that I will remember everything about the ceremony and the rest will just fly by. Elegance is a quality of refined gracefulness and good taste. Regardless of budget or of timing, a wedding can be done in good taste if that is one’s intention. Elegance is not sheer numbers of guests, the name of your gown designer or size of your sweet table. Elegance is entirely determined by the couple.

So that is my response to that question. Of course I want to have an elegant and lovely wedding. But that lasts one day. It is far more important to me that Frank and I have a marriage that is strong, resilient and faithful. Everything else is just the details.
