Long lost poem…

For about 4 years, John N and I have been searching for this poem we saw on the El. So anyway, the genious found it and I’m going to share it. It’s by John Dickson.

FAME

Of the twenty thousand leaves of the oak tree about twelve thousand were burned,

six thousand rotten on the ground,

two thousand disappeared in the river.

and one was pressed in a book,

pasted on paper,

hung on the kindergarten wall,

and considered by everyone to be

quite a marvelous thing.

Wedding Updates…

I went to try on my wedding dress yesterday and I put it on and it was 2 inches too short! Apparently the manufacturer neglected to add the extra length! The good news is that I caught it in time–they will be able to replace the gown with the correct one before my Aug 31st wedding (yes, I lied to the dress store and it’s a good thing too!).

And I can’t really be too upset about the whole dress thing, yesterday I think I found our wedding rings and bedspread. FK and I just need to check it out together to be srue and then we’re done with that….

Only 70 days to go!!

Almost there!

The week is almost over since I have Thurs and Fri off! YAY!!

Monday: Worked late, came home at 8:30. I worked with Kate A on her application to the company I work for–hopefully she’ll get the job!! That would be WAY cool. Very exciting. 🙂

Tuesday: Going to work late again. Probably won’t get home until 9:30 or 10:30.

Thoughts on Working Late:

It’s easier to work late when you feel like you have a vested interest in the project that is being worked on. When you are just there for who knows what reason and you aren’t working on something that you understand (ie, the purpose of the project, etc), it becomes harder to swallow.

Also, you shouldn’t have to sign away your life for your job. Just a thought. Work to live, not live to work.

Peace!

Undies Day!

Yesterday my friend Ann and I had dinner at Baja Fresh at Deer Park Mall. Then we decided to check out the sales at GAP. I got a bunch of underwear (a little over $1/pair) and a tube top for $4.00 (this is so I can tan without getting a line for the wedding dress) and a new scent. YAY! We also had a good time going through her pictures from Blitz Build.

Ice Cream Day!

Monday, Kate and I had ice cream. That was yummy! We also had a nice time chatting about things–weddings, school, work, etc. Good times!

Being busy…

So yeah, I’m a busy chick. I have a lot going on with the wedding and moving and work, etc. But I really feel out of the loop. I miss all of my sorority sisters a lot and I don’t really get to do a lot of “hanging out” stuff with friends from home. There are only 86 days to the wedding, but when we are married, I’ll be in Naperville. So I feel like I need to make sure I do a lot of stuff now with friends on top of everything for the wedding. It seems that everyone else has a better schedule than I do, as well. I know this is a lot of whining, but I suppose I just needed to vent.

There. Done. (for now)

Updates!

Well, I tried to get all this updated stuff together on Friday of last week, but no luck. Blogger freaked out and lost my stuff. So here we go.

Wednesday, June 4–Frank and I had the day off of work and were very productive considering that we were both not feeling very well. The night before we picked up our kitchen table (WE own furniture now!). Then Wednesday morning we shuffled off to Midway to drop off his resume. Then we went to the jewelers to look at wedding rings. That wasn’t as productive as we hoped, but oh well. After a quick Oberweis lunch, we headed to Naperville to begin our apartment search. The first place we looked at smelled soooo awful that I was worried that *I* smelled after we left. Thankfully I smelled no more than usual 🙂 The second place was better than the first, but not necessarily inspiring. The third and final apartment was on a golf course by an excellent train station and I fell in love! That is where we are hoping to rent.

Thursday, June 5–I was feeling better and went to work. Not much exciting.

Friday, June 6–After work we all went to Tammy’s house where we had a fabulous time eating pizza and playing games. One of the best evenings I’ve had in a while!

Saturday, June 7–I went to Frank’s office to get some work done. Unfortunately a student crashed his plane and I couldn’t’ get anything done. I gave Dor a ring and we went to the mall and window shopped for a while. Good times! Then we had a birthday party to attend for one of Frank’s students. It’s funny that Frank’s students are turning 50 in some cases.

Sunday, June 8–We had a premarital seminar. Good times. Then we went to Corner Bakery for dinner and saw the movie Bruce Almighty.

I think that’s it!

Shoppy Shoppy…

Well, last night I did a good job. I got 3 very cute shirts for the bargain price of $28. Rock. I also got to spend some quality time with my girl, Kimmie Wimmie.

Why Kim is SOOO Cool:

Kim is so cool because she shops with me. We pick through piles of clothes and offer eachother our professional advice on items. “That makes you look busty (This is a compliment, by the way)” and other good advice is offered through out the shopping adventure. She also makes me laugh. And she eats McDonald’s with me, even though we both know that I have to be able to fit into a wedding dress in, oh, 108 days.

Which brings me to:

WEDDING UPDATES!

Yes, folks, we here at the R-K Wedding Company have 108 days to go. That’s like 3.5 months. Tomorrow is a big day for us as we will be:

*Getting our wedding bands (as in rings, not musicians)

*Finding an apartment

*Visiting with our pastor

This weekend I will also be finalizing a few things on our wedding registries, selecting my veil and tiara (I am a princess, you know) and possibly purchasing some kick-butt dinnerware.

After that, June 13th will be engagement photo day. July 11th is tentatively scheduled as florist day, but I believe that will be moved.

T-108 days… YAY!

Holy Cow–Whata Weekend!

Friday: Came home from work, changed into my Hawaiian attire and headed straight for Holy Family with Frank in tow. The reason? Andrea and Dave G’s wedding rehearsal. Loads of fun were had by all, especially when the tornado sirens started to scream. We later went to Famous Dave’s for some yummy BBQ.

Saturday: I got myself out of bed early and headed for Lombard to pick up Frank. I brought him some OJ and some donuts for the road. I like to make sure that everyone is well fed on road trips. 🙂 We then headed for Roanoke, IL, birthplace of my father. I showed Frank the small town–no stop lights, even–and then surprised my Aunt Ruth Ann, Uncle Mark and my Aunt Renae with a little visit. We chatted for a bit and then had some lunch. After our visit, we hopped back into the car and cruised into Bloomington for Smess and Andy B’s wedding. (Frank’s friends)

The wedding was beautiful! It was in a small church, but it was so packed with meaning and love and happiness that I just about cried a few times. Smess was a BEAUTIFUL bride and you could tell that everyone was so happy for both of them. Smess made these AMAZING invitations, programs and booklets. I was very impressed. We asked her if we could steal some of her great ideas and she said we sure could!

After dinner at the reception, they had swing dance instructors! Frank and I are now world-class swing dancers… well, not really. But we’re on our way!

Sunday: We drove home Saturday night and I dragged my butt out of bed early Sunday so that I could get my hair done and put on make up for Andrea and Dave’s wedding. I had to be at the salon at 8 a.m. CRAZY! After that, we went to Andrea’s house at 11 and started pictures at noon. After pictures, we were whisked off to Holy Family for the ceremony. The ceremony was beautiful and the day turned out to be much better than the rehearsal 🙂

After the ceremony, we did more pictures. And after that, the party began! YAY!!! The best man and I toasted everything we could think of. And Frank and I made new friends–Matt and Jenna! They are getting married December 6th in Orlando. WOOHOO!! They are a very nice couple! Frank and Jenna sat together at the reception and set the bread basket on fire. 🙂

That’s it!

What's up??

So Yeah, total slacker chick over here.

Wedding Updates (since this and work are all that is left of my life)

Saturday: Got the flowers with my mom. I will carry plum mini calla lillies (SOO pretty) and the bridesmaids will carry crystal breath mini calla lillies (also beautiful). We struck out later that day with the invitations, but then hit “gold” on Monday at Hallmark. So all we need to do is the wording and submit it (and the times) & the invitations will be taken care of!

Sunday: Went shopping for bridesmaid dresses and found a beautiful dress at Ann Taylor. It is black with a very ruffly bottom and a cowel neck and spaghetti straps. It will look lovely with an up-do and jewelry. AND it no one needs alterations AND it was on sale!! YAY!

Monday: Found the invitations and negotiated the trolley. I’m getting better at this negotiation thing. I am negotiated him down a respectable chunk of change. As long as I feel good about the negotiations–that’s all that matters, right?

Tuesday: Rested–went to bed at 9 p.m. It was my wedding day off.

Wednesday: Sending out deposit for trolley. Tonight we are going to check out tuxedos for Frank. He will look dashing, I’m sure! 😀

Thursday: Another day of rest.

Friday: FRANK’S BIRTHDAY!!! (I’m working at IAA that day in honor of his golden 23!)

TGIF!

So I bet you’re curious as to what I’ve been doing all week 😀

Wednesday: I watched the series finale of “Dawson’s Creek”. Even though I was never an avid watcher, it symbolizes the end of one part of my life and the beginning of another. It also revealed to me what a wussy I am. I cried from 8p to 9p SOLID. It was cleansing, though.

Thursday: Frank picked me up from the train in West Chicago and then proceeded to score MANY good boyfriend brownie points by going with me to the Great Indoors to look at bedding and furniture. Who’s a good boy?? Then we went back to my house so I could change and we grabbed a quick bite to eat. Then we headed off to see The Matrix. The movie was pretty good, although slightly long and it ended in one of the world’s biggest cliffhangers ever! ::Sigh:: I guess we’ll have to see Matrix 3 in November.

Friday: Tonight is my sorority’s formal!! YAY! I wonder who will win the most coveted honor our sorority has: Most Perverted!! 😀

That’s all for now!

Weekend Updates:

Frank and I had a great time hanging out with Anthony and Laura–even though the conversation did wind up running aground in politics and religion. ::Sigh::

Saturday I went to IAA to get some work done on the Newsletter (Will this thing ever go away!?) and then I met up with Dorothy for a little lunch and then a little shoppy shoppy. 🙂 After that, I went home and took care of thank you notes and a few other things around the house before we saw my brother’s band play in the battle of the bands.

Can I tell you that my brother is just too cool? He has GROUPIES! These girls made their own band tee-shirts (Les Harvard is the name of the band) and screamed and jumped throughout the entire performance. I think it also helped that his band is actually very good–Frank and I loved watching them play. It’s exciting to see my brother “rocking out” on stage. I must tell you that the lead singer of his band is every bit of them “rock star” that my dad told me he was. He definitely has stage presence!

After the battle of the bands, Frank and I went to see XMen2–which I thought was great!! I wish I had Rebecca Romajn-Stamos’ body (Spelling?). Yikes!

Yesterday we went to my aunt’s house for Mother’s Day where we ate lots of yummy food. Then we went back to my house where Frank and I passed out for an hour and a half. We finished off the evening watching the movie “Singles”.

Upcoming Wedding Stuff:

This week we are interviewing the photographer, the florist and finding invitations. Crazy!!

Bye for now!

Weekend Update

Well, I saw most of X-Men on Friday night with Frank, Craig and Jamie–outstanding movie (from what I saw). Then Saturday I went to Andrea M’s bachelorette party, which was a riot. We played “Pin the Hairy Chest on Dave” which made for some good gigglin’. I think I liked that she had a fairly tame bachelorette party–very few uncomfortable moments (if any at all).

Food Marketing Institute Show

Often referred to as Dr. K’s Christmas, this month is the double whammy of the Food Marketing Institute show and the National Restaurant Association Show. Designed for grocery and restaurant buyers, the show features a variety of foods to sample. From beer and chili to chocolates and creme puffs, the entire show is really a day-long buffet. What a brilliant idea! And I have to say, it was far better than the “Taste of Chicago”–fewer people and it was indoors! Fabulous!

Registering

Tonight my mom and I are going to register for China and bed linens, etc. I think it will be fun… I am thinking about registering at Target and Marshall Fields and possibly Pottery Barn or something like that. I’m not sure yet.

I think that’s it for now…
