You know you're old when…

… you don’t read the jokes on the laffy taffy wrappers. And you’re even older when you DO read them and then shake your head disdainfully.

Here I am, nearly 8pm on a Tuesday night. My husband, bless his soul, is out at the Safehouse in Milwaukee while I am still at work. And I will probably be here for another hour or so. At least.

The good news is: I like my job and I like the people and I am not overtired (yet) as I would have been if I was still in Chicago with my loooong commute.

The bad news is: they have a candy jar here and I LOVE it. UGH! There is even an upscale candy station on the 5th floor with DOUBLE STUFF OREO COOKIES! I NEED to find my self-control! I have none! eeeeek!!!

Otherwise, life in Milwaukee is fantastic. I get to see my husband (for now, at least), we live in a very cute apartment and my job is interesting and rewarding. At least for working these hours, my director is going to try to get me a few more days off this year. YEEHAW!

So, the net-net is, Life is Good.

We're HERE!!

Yep! We’ve moved into the good ole town of Milwaukee!

The town is nice, but can’t seem to locate the grocery store for the life of me. Have a feeling that work is going to SUCK THE LIFE out of me. Hm. Good stuff.

Hope everyone is having a great week! More later!

Movin'

Well, we are moving to Milwaukee in less than a week and we are mostly packed up and ready to go. It’s crazy because I can’t believe that we are really going – it feels so surreal. It hasn’t really hit me yet. We’re going to have to get new license plates, new drivers’ licenses, revise our insurance, and all that. It’s quite an undertaking to move out of state. But, I’m excited. We signed our lease on Friday and our apartment is cute, but hardly a place to settle down in for longer than a year. We are thinking that if we like downtown a lot, we’ll try to find a condo downtown. THere are some really cute condo’s on the river. That would be pretty cool.

Today is also our 1 year wedding anniversary. Last night Mom made a delicious dinner for us: prime rib, corn on the cob, garlic bread, salad, cranberries, applesauce, etc. THEN! As if that wasn’t awesome enough, Mom also had a replica of our wedding cake (chocolate fudge with chocolate fudge frosting). I didn’t remember how good our cake was, but i had some last night and it was AWESOME. SOOOO GOOD! 😛

Frank and I spent today packing, as I mentioned, and then we went to church. Our church is starting a young married couples group and they had a BBQ today, so we went. It was sad because the group is going to be awesome and we’re going to be in Milwaukee. Bummer!

I am not looking forward to tomorrow because I think it’s going to stink. I have a feeling it’s going to be rough. I sense that I will be at work for a LONG time.

Ugh. UGH.

Congratulations, Frank!

Well, Frank passed his oral exam with flying colors! Good job, Frank! Today he had one final, day-in-the-life-of simulator class and tonight he’s coming home. Thank goodness-I missed him A TON while he was gone!!

So, 9/24 will be my last day at my current job and then right away, I start up at my new job in Milwaukee on 9/27. YAY! I’m excited for the move and the new position.

WOOHOO!

Movin' to Milwaukee

Well, it’s official, we’re movin’ to Milwaukee! I got an offer from an agency up there and we were approved for our apartment, so off we go!

I am terribly nervous about giving my notice on Monday, but once I gt through that, it shouldn’t be too bad… I hope.

What's New…

This week Frank is training in Milwaukee. Yesterday he was measured for his uniform–yay! What a hottie! He is living with his parents, as I’ve mentioned, and it has been a little bit lonely at home, but I’m doing okay. I will be able to see him tomorrow & that’s not too far away!

I’ve been really busy with trying to find a new job and all that good stuff. We are going to go apartment hunting in Milwaukee on Sunday, so that will be good. I’m excited about the move, for sure.

Tonight I’m driving to Elgin (cuz I’m crazy) to say good-bye to my dearest friend Katy S who is moving to Arizona. From the Orange Hand to Zee Pink Lee-mon-ade, we go way back and I’m going to miss her so much!! I also get to meet her John M–the love interest 🙂

Tomorrow, I’m getting my hair cut and spending quality time with Da Husband. Yeehaw. Saturday, I have to try on my dress for Dor’s wedding and run a few errands before we go to see Dave Matthew’s Band up in Wisconsin. I can’t wait–I love Dave! And, as I mentioned before, apartment shopping on Sunday. Busy busy!

After this weekend, Frank might be using some weekends to do some mandatory flights around the country. He needs to observe the crew in action. The good news is that I might get to go on some of the trips with him, which would be awesome. Yay!

Just another thought…

When walking to work, I pass quite the cast of characters. On Dearborn and State, at about the same time every morning, there is a guy wearing some bizarrely colored (purple, orange, baby blue) suit made out of some interesting fabric (satin, cordouroy (sp?) or velvet). The suit seems to be well made–but for someone either much shorter or much taller. He walks with a slight limp, but is generally clean shaven, clean cut, well-groomed. Very bizarre.

Luv Affair

Shhh. We have to keep this on the downlow. Or the lowdown. No, definitely the downlow. I’ll give you the low-down but you must keep it on the down-low. There we go. I’m trendy.

Anyway, today I fell in luv. Hardcore. I pass my new luv on my way to and from work, yet I’ve never stopped. I’ve let my eyes wander, that’s for sure, but until today, I was never tempted to follow through. That’s right, today, I caved.

And I suppose that part of this has to do with the fact that I had no other option. No one else was there to step in and say, “Look, Emily, this is dangerous ground on which you tread! Once you deviate from your tried and true path–you will never go back.” No one put a hand on my shoulder and said, “Look at what you are about to throw away. All the good times you could have… Just stop. Think. Is it worth it?”

No, no. NO one stopped me. NO one cared. Actually, my coworkers were enablers in this hideous game of luv. They went with me to Cosi where I tasted one of the best salads ever to pass through my selective lips (oh, okay, you know I’ll eat anything) . There, I ordered the Chicken Cobb salad. And it was…. wow… amazing! So much food, I could hardly finish it. I tried, but I finally had to say, “Back off Emily, c’mon.”

This kind of ravenous luv only happens once in a blue moon. Never have I fallen so hard for a food item… well, since the Skinny Cow. But that’s an entirely different category all together.

Ahh… now if only I could nap after my luv affair….
