side note…

So I checked to see what I was blogging about last year in December.  I only wrote one blog: Snow.  In that blog I said something like, “Well, once we get our stuff put away and a light fixture hung in the dining area, it will feel like home.”

Thanks to Frank, we finally got the light fixture hung this week.

Welcome home, K fam, welcome home.

29

Today I turn 29.

Time is a fluid thing.  It stretches and it contracts, seeming to sometimes be long and to sometimes be short.

I feel alternately as though I am old and I am young and I am somewhere in between.

It’s a weird, squishy place to be.

I wonder about the things that I will learn in the next decade of my life.

I wonder if 39 will feel more solid, more concrete, more definite.

I wonder if I will be able to become the person that God means for me to be.

I wonder if I will be more in control of myself and comfortable with the reality of my limited control over everything else.

Birthdays mark the passage of time.  They remind me to take inventory of the year that has been and to look forward to the year that will be.

28 was not awesome, but it was pretty stinking good (all things considered).

I have high hopes for 29.

Here. we. go!

highs & lows – week ending 10/11/09

Yeah, that’s right – I’m starting my weeks on Mondays.  It’s the broadcast week.  You know, TV producers start their weeks on Mondays.  You didn’t know that?  No one knows that?  And furthermore, no one cares?

You’re pwobably wight.

Moving on:

Highs:

1. Time with Frank.  We’ve just been having really great time together.  Love him 🙂

2.  Lori & Chris’s wedding.  They look so lovely and so happy.  ::happy sigh::

3. Breakfast with Kate, Jamie, Craig & Brendan.  It was early, but it was worth it!  You all are fabulous!

4. Work.  I’m just really  happy with my job.  Always something interesting.  Always something to learn.

5. Cleaned out the garage, got rid of the possum couch (thanks KV!) and FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE WE MOVED HERE: my car is in the garage.  I practically squealed with joy.  And I actually squealed with joy when I remembered that I didn’t have to go outside to a cold car this morning!

Lows:

1. Fertility crapola.  Bah!

2. Anxiety issues stemming from the consumption of Diet Coke.  Guess I just have to kick the habit now and forever.  Dirty!

3. Cold weather.  I’m just not mentally ready for it.  Bah!

What are your  highs and lows?  You can play along with my dear friend Slightly Cosmo by going to her blog.  Thanks, Heidi!

dragging my face on the cool tile floor

sounds like a really good idea right now.

There are times in my life when I think about doing the darnedest things.  For a long time I wondered about opening the car door while driving.

Why?

I don’t know.  It just seemed like a good idea.

Not to worry, I wouldn’t ever do it, but man, it was a provocative thought.

I’ve also wondered about biting into a bar of Irish Spring soap.  Just really sinking my teeth into it and chewing on it.

Irish Spring does not smell yummy like cookies or brownies, but mmmm… ::CHOMP!::

Considering my track record, I guess it’s not surprising that I have these thoughts.

And unfortunately, at work, we have a LOT of ceramic tile.  Some of it is even on the walls.  And it looks deliciously cool.

My face pines for you, oh lovely, cool, ceramic floors.

mmmmm.

And that’s why I think I might be a touch under the weather.

oh yeah…

one of the musician-types I sat next to on the way home played in a band called the blood arm.  Interestingly, she recently was injured in a freak candle holder accident that cut through her quad through to the bone and had to have surgery to repair her muscle, etc.  She showed me a picture.  It was gruesome.  So the blood arm band girl was more of a bloody leg.  Sweet.

rock.

shoppin' and bakin'

Today was not as productive as I had hoped.  I sort of recovered for the morning and then went out into the world

Stop one: Chase.

This was the part of the day where I confessed my idiocy to a complete stranger.  Somehow (I am vague on purpose cuz I know how) I wound up with 3 debit cards.  An old one and two new ones.  I activated one of the new ones, which in turn, deactivated the old one.  But I didn’t have the pin for the new one.  So I went up to the fine tellers at chase, laid out my three cards and told them all of my troubles.  They fixed it and even lied to me, saying, “This happens all the time.” Right.  Nice.

Stop one and a half: Dominick’s

Since the Chase branch is IN the Dominick’s grocery store, I figured I’d pick up a few missing essentials – cotton balls, razors, bread, two pints of Fro-Yo (Frozen Yogurt) and Magic Shell.  Have I mentioned that I am having a roughish day?

Stop two: Bed Bath & Beyond.

And this was the part of my day where I resisted mightily purchasing something for myself.  I wanted some air-tight canisters for my flour and sugar.  I wanted a rug for the office in the basement.  I wanted a new TV stand.  I want, I want, I want… But I stayed the course.  I only purchased the gift I needed for the shower tomorrow… oh, and a pack of gum.  And now my dear friend’s registry has Dentyne on it – cuz the cashier put it on her registry.   So it should say, “Dentyne Gum.  Wants: 0, Has: 1”   What’s going to be the real bummer is that I have no plans of giving her the gum.  Hey, you can’t have everything.

Stop three: Valli’s.

This was one of those stops where Dorothy sort of veered across three lanes of traffic (not really) and squealed into the parking lot saying, “Guys! Since we’re here, just gotta get a few things.”  Like we’d say no to that.  (we = Kristin H-J and me).  The produce at Valli’s is SO cheap.  SO. Cheap!  But again, I resisted the urge to make any rash purchases and instead just bought some bread flour.  Yum.

Stop four: Dorothy & Erik’s

Okay, I haven’t made this stop yet because I am patiently waiting for the durned bread to be done.  “C’mon bread, you can do it!”

Addendum to Day 1 Post:

Talked to La Doctor today.  She is upping my Clomid (seriously, if everyone is suddenly busy in August, I understand.  Heck, I want to avoid me too!).  I don’t really have any more to say about that.  I have to be home on Monday to receive my meds, so I’m not sure I’ll make it to the Wisco State Fair.  Grrr!  All hope is not lost yet, tho…

Not My Finest Moments…

In the history of me, there have been not-my-finest-moment (nmfm) moments:

-I got my tongue stuck in my braces. True story. Didn’t think it was possible, did you? It is. Oh, and my parents tried, unsuccessfully, for one hour, to get my tongue off of my braces. Finally, after calling the dentist at his home in the middle of dinner, I sat down in the chair at the dentist’s office, removed the towel from my face and my tongue came unstuck from my braces. WTF?

-Or the time I was getting into our car in Milwaukee and my pants split so loud, Frank heard it. And he was on the other side of the car. Outside. With the door closed.

-Or the many head injuries I obtained in fast pitch softball. One ball to the temple (a line drive throw to third – this, ladies, is why we wear helmets…) and at least two to the mouth (when catching pop flies, it’s best to catch them in your mitt…).

-Or the time I sliced my toe open on the CTA while on my way to a client meeting. That was awesome. I tried to clean up in the bathroom and my director walked in to blood all over the sink. As she was gagging and trying not to look at the unsightly mess, she wisely said, “Emily, I think you should get a tetanus shot.” So off to the ER I went. But I walked because I only had enough cash to go one way. And of course, didn’t want to ask for money. Or stop at an ATM.

I could go on. But my therapist advises against it.

The important thing is I established a pattern of unique ways of embarrassing myself.

And I suspect that since I haven’t done anything too detrimental to my ego lately, I am due. What will it be? A sudden rain storm while wearing white? A banana peel on the steps of my new place of employment?

Bring it on.

delightful

we had our small group’s retreat this weekend and the weather was perfect – not too hot. We sat in millennium park and had two of our sessions and lunch. i could have stayed out there forever!! then we went to the hotel and checked in and had two more sessions and then walked to dinner. we ate dinner at quartinos on ontario and state. mmmmm – italian tappas!! SO good.

then we went back to talk about psalms and parables before going to sleep.

loved hanging with the girls! so tired tho… must sleep…

salsa.mmm.

so i decided to make some pre-emptive salsa. my salsa garden is about to produce our FIRST TOMATO! but i really wanted to test out a salsa recipe, so I bought the ingrediants at the store (hopefully for the last time).

Oh. my gosh.

Amazing.

I put in Roma Tomatos, jalepeno peppers, onion, cilantro (fresh from my garden!) and lime juice.

SOO good.

That’s all for now. I just wanted to share.
