don't worry people!!

I’m not going to pull my blog. My concerned minions (ie. Kate A) were questioning my previous contemplative post and I am here to stay that I was just more-or-less ranting about the way that work has sucked all sorts of creativity out of my brain and has replaced it with terminology that makes me a social outcast at any cocktail party. I mean, it’s more exciting to tell people that you are a lobotomist (is that the term?) than it is to tell them that you do what I do because I haven’t figured out how to tell people what I do in an intriguing way that leads them to ask me more questions. I am thinking of telling people I am a “Lead Strategist in World Domination and Brain Washing” because I really think that raises questions. Questions like, “Wow, what kind of degree do you need for that?” (Marketing) “Will it always require a bloody coup in order for you to be promoted after a certain point?” (Yes, sadly, although I will try to minimize casualties) and the classic “So, um, like, do you get great tchotckes in that or what?” (Yes, plundering the universe does have it’s perks)

Seriously, though, why did I have to marry someone who has a far more interesting job than me? Here’s how it goes at all cocktail parties and any social interactions:

Host: Please meet Frank and Emily. Frank is a pilot and Emily is in advertising.
Guest: Wow, a pilot, really?
Frank: Yes, actually.
Guest: No kidding. Who do you fly for? What kind of plane? Where do you go? You are the most fascinating person I have ever met. Would you go home with me?
Frank: (Thinking long and hard and then remembering that I am standing there) I, uh, can’t go home with you tonight because I have baggage, er, a wife. She’s in advertising. (sigh)
Guest: Wife? What’s her name? Is she here? (Looking around)
Frank: Yeah. She’s right here.
Guest: Where?
Frank: Standing right here. Wave, Em.
ME: (Waving) Over here, me. Emily. I’m married to the pilot.
Guest: What is it like being married to a pilot? Are you worried about his dangerous job? Do you feel like you won the marital lottery finding a hot pilot husband? Do you know any of his friends?
ME: Um. Yeah. It’s great.
Guest: You must love it. What is it you do again?
ME: Lead World Domination Strategist, actually.
Guest: That’s nice. Is that like a bank or something? Frank, let’s go back to talking about you.
Frank: Of course.

When I was trying to figure out my major, I really should have considered that I would have to talk about my career for the rest of my life. ::Sigh::

Sleepy time!

why do i have this blog anyway?

Well, it has crossed my mind many times as to why I have this blog since it seems that my updates are few and far between. Initially I thought it would be a great creative outlet for my wacky thoughts – turns out having a full time job sucks the life and sense of humor and creativity out of you. Or maybe getting old does that. Wow. That’s depressing.

I mean, let’s evaluate: what are my hobbies? work, husband, work, church, work, family. Not in that order exactly, but close. So that even sounds a little depressing. Let’s ponder this one, shall we?

::Sigh::

busy busy busy

Well, Frank and I returned late Friday night from our trip to Disney World. We had a Disney-magical vacation, for sure! We stayed at the Wilderness Lodge and visited 3 of the 4 theme parks. Kate was a little disappointed that we didn’t make it to Animal Kingdom. Sorry Kate!

ANyway, we had a great time (as I mentioned) and really just loved spending the time together. We spent a lot of the trip hanging out with our friends Erin & John. We made sure to squeeze in some naps in the afternoon so we weren’t cranky for our evening activities. We saw the Fantasmic light & water extravaganza (and let me tell you – it was quite an extravaganza!). We also enjoyed a meat extravaganza (cows & chickens beware!) at the Polynesian. A fantastic adventure in food eating, we experienced a few “all you care to enjoy” buffets – and yes, Frank and I cared to enjoy!

Other than our lovely vacation, we have been working on the house. We marked up our plans last Monday and are getting ready to make our final selections and then close on the loan.

I also want to congratulate my sister Caitlin on getting her first real job post-graduation!! YAY! GOOD JOB! She starts on 8/22. YAY!!! I am so proud of you, Cait! You are awesome!!

where does the time go?

So what have we been up to, you must be wondering. Not too much and a whole heck of a lot. Just a few highlights:

1. I injured myself on the CTA. Don’t ask, but somehow I managed to be standing too close to doors that open inward and they sliced my poor pinky toe. I was bleeding and had to go to the ER for a tetnus shot (would you trust the bacteria on the El? I thought not!) The thing was, I was on my way to a client meeting (woops) and wound up going to the hospital instead.

2. We are buying a house. I’m not sure if I touched on this in earlier posts, but it’s quite an exciting time for us. We found a builder we like, put in an offer and are working out the details of our new-home-to-be. Frank and I have stopped sleeping and eating due to the gi-normousness of this investment. Needless to say, we are very excited about our new home – it will definitely be a step up from our 1 bdrm apartment!!

3. We are going to Disney in 1 week!!! Yay!!! It’s going to be a wonderful time and we can’t wait to be riding the rides and relaxing by the pool. We just hope we don’t have any hurricanes!!

sunday night anxiety

ah yes – it wouldn’t be Sunday Night without The Sunday Night Anxiety. Did I do everything I needed to do? Did I forget something? What kind of nightmare awaits me tomorrow?

I should always remember the Bible verse I selected before my baptism. It is Jesus giving telling people not to worry and showing the needlessness of worry (is needlessness a word?)

Matthew 6:25-27
25“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? 26Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life[b]?

It is so true. Worrying never solved anything, made it any better. And God is faithful and helps us through rough times. It just reminds me how well God takes care of even the smallest of animals and provides for it.

So good news, there is no need to worry. And the not so good news? Tomorrow is already Monday!! eeek!

🙂 I hope everyone has a great week!

have you seen my husband?

Well, it has been a while since I posted last and I figured that I should give a basic run-down of what is going on in my life. Aside from work, which I will always just say is “busy,” Frank and I are finalizing some plans to go on vac-cay – whee! We’re just going for a few days, but it took us over a year to plan it. We’re goin’ to Dizz-knee-world! Huge bonus: Frank gets a 50% discount on all hotels on the grounds, so we’ll be staying at the Wilderness Hotel. I’m so excited!! (So is Frank!)

Anyway – Frank has been flying like crazy. He’ll be gone all of this weekend, leaving me to wander aimlessly about the state of Wisconsin. Maybe even Illinois. “Have you seen my husband?”

Actually, it’s been pretty crazy like that for a few weeks. He finally has a schedule – hoorah – so at least we know when he’ll be gone and when he’ll be home. That’ll be very nice. My family will actually be up in Wisconsin camping which will be nice. I’ll go down there, chill with them for a bit. Have some BBQ and come home. Jeff & Amy are having a party tomorrow night, so I’m going to call to RSVP for that good time.

Okay. I’m done. I’m tired, too. ::Yawn::

tired

I haven’t updated in a while, and I really shouldn’t start now! I’m tired and grouchy, but I wanted to tell everyone else to have a lovely rest of your week !

Cheers!

luscious

Sunday was a luscious day. The grass was green, the air was warm, the sky was a perfect shade of blue. I walked from our apartment, past all of the Marquette graduates, down to the lake where I read and people watched (more people watched than read, I must admit). After that, I strolled up to the store and bought a few items we needed and then walked home. I even fit a work out in there!

This week TOTALLY flew by. I cannot believe that it is Thursday night and tomorrow is a 1/2 day. HOORAY! I think it is about time that I finally get my Wisconsin driver’s license, don’t you think? I will probably go to the DMV tomorrow (way to use the half day, right?).

Work was pretty so-so this week – lots of drama I don’t care to repeat here. Frank has been gone most of this week in various places, so that’s kind of a bummer. Wait, let me put this in perspective, he has only been gone 1/2 of the week. Tomorrow he gets in at 10am and tomorrow night, we have a hot date. Doing what, I do not know, but it shall be hot. Or low to mid 60’s. Which is balmy for Milwaukee.

Other than work and church and Frank, things have been okay. My family is in a bit of chaos – also something I prefer not to share here – and I just found out some friends of mine from H.S. are getting a divorce. Divorce is never good, but at least they didn’t have children. This is the 4th divorce I have heard of this month. It really makes me think a lot about being dedicated to our marriage, spending time enjoying each other, and always finding ways to keep it fresh. Beyond all the “stuff” that goes with marriage, I think it is most important to have fun.

Speaking of fun – the other night FK was aggravating me in bed. (Not what you think) He was poking me and tickling me and all I wanted to do was go to bed. So I got out of the bed in a huff, walked out of the room and into the kitchen. For those of you who are unfamiliar with our apartment, there is a frosted window between the kitchen and the bedroom (bizarre, I know). I stood in front of this window and tapped my fingers on it. The nightlight in the hall made the whole scene eerie. Frank came out of the bedroom and that’s when I freaked myself out and started crying. Wow. I’m a big mess. Well, at least I’m married to FK and not me. That would be rough. 🙂

g&t for you, a dc for me!

Last night FK and I went out with his friend Kupers. I had some DC with a cherry. Can you believe that your standard martini is about 200 calories? You could have 2 rice krispy treats or a beverage. Out of control.

Other than that – not a whole lot seems to be going on. This month is the 6 year anniversary of our first [failed] date. We saw Star Wars episode 1. Here we are, 6 years later, and the final episode will be released tonight at 11:59 pm CST.

I think that’s it. It’s cold, but I’m wearing a sundress anyway. I am protesting. It’s going to rain tonight, I think. Hrmph.

may & stuff…

FK is on a stand-up tonight. That means he flies for a while, gets a few hours of sleep and then flies home. And then sleeps some more. I decided to update my blog’s look, but HOLY COW, that took a stinking long time to get it to work how I wanted it.

Outside of some on-going family issues, things have been just peachy. Work just calmed down a bit last week, so that’s good. My dad is starting up a new business and he just had an outstanding week. He booked a bunch of people – awesome considering he is in week 2 of existence. He’s brilliant. Go Dad!!

Caitlin, my darling sister, graduated from college last weekend. I flew down to see it and to spend time with my family. OUT OF CONTROL. Very crazy family. It has been a while since we were all in one car for a prolonged period of time. I have no more to say about that either, other than that I still love my family. And that is proof that there is a God – where else would I have learned “in spite of” love?? 🙂 J/K. My family is great & I love them.

This weekend my cousin turns 21. She’s not the only one growing up and maturing : I finally managed to say, “Hey, I don’t think that I can volunteer at church, go to her 21st party over 1 1/2 hours away and then drive another 45 minutes to yet another party and still get up for a baptism the next morning.” Especially considering that my cousin’s party won’t get going until late. Note to self: You can’t do it all. The baptism, as you may be wondering, is for my darling niece, Julia Michelle. Julia and her brother, Luke, are the most adorable children ever. EVER. And this isn’t Auntie Insanity, it is fact. Ask Frank. He’ll even tell you that our niece and nephew are too cute. (when they are not puking on their uncle)

Anyway, next week we have the last of the TV upfronts (email me if you actually want to know what that means) for the Broadcast Networks. If you are interested in checking out what is going on with the Upfronts, check it out at Media Life or AdAge.

I’m so done. Have a good night! …. errr…. morning!
